Julia Baird started gymnastics at age 4 and eventually joined the Junior Olympic program at the Leistungszentrum Mainz in Germany. There she competed at local, state and national events, reaching the equivalent of a level 9/10 in the US gymnastics system. Her biggest accomplishment as a gymnast was winning the all-around gold medal at a national competition in Berlin at age 9. After taking a year-long break and moving to Oregon several years later, she began competing for Gold Star Gymnastics in Vancouver, WA. At 13, she switched from competitive gymnastics to performance dance, focusing mostly on ballet and jazz.
Julia enjoys the recreational gymnastics environment at The Children’s Gym and strives to teach the sport in an engaging and fun way. Her favorite events to coach are the balance beam and floor exercise. With the help of TCG, Julia has earned her USA Gymnastics safety certification and is currently working on getting certified as a Junior Olympic development coach.
Julia will graduate from Portland State University with a bachelor’s degree in June, 2012, and is planning on attending graduate school afterwards.
