The Oregon Irish Dance Academy runs weekly classes inside The Children’s Gym. Our Irish dancing classes are unique, fun, and an awesome workout for the body and mind.

The 2017-18 Season will begin August 7, 2017.

Click here to view the 2017-18 weekly dance class schedule.

Enrollment for 2017-18 Irish dancing classes will open online in June 2017. Enrollment will open first to dancers enrolled in our current dance classes and then to the public.

2017-18 season classes will resume on Monday, August 7, 2017 (except Performance Team – that will start in September). If you plan on traveling in August, we highly recommend still enrolling in August classes to reserve your dancer’s spot, as we expect classes to fill. Once you’re enrolled, just let us know when you’ll be gone, and you’ll be able to do make-up classes for those absences throughout the 2017-18 season at your convenience.

Let us know if you have any questions! Call Miss Christina at 503-819-9555 or email oregonirishdance@gmail.com.

Pre-Irish Classes for Ages 3-4 │ 55-minutes │ $83 per month for once per week

Our 3-4 year old classes are limited to 6 students per class, so each student gets plenty of one-on-one time with the teacher. Classes are designed to intrigue 3-4 year olds, disguising valuable repetition by quickly changing between fun activities and exciting props. Our goal is to build confidence and coordination, and we design class to be easily adaptable for children just separating from their parents or new to a classroom environment. The consistent structure of our classes combined with the constant positive reinforcement of our teaching style sets students up for success, so they have tons of fun and learn to love dancing!

Pre-Irish classes are light shoe only, as we’ve found our youngest students to be most successful with light shoe. When students turn 5, they have the option of starting heavy shoe classes in addition to their light shoe classes. We highly recommend that students start off taking Pre-Irish twice per week, as this creates valuable repetition that allows students to improve much more quickly, which is more fun!

Level 1 Classes for Ages 5-6 │ 55-minutes │ $83 per month for once per week

The consistent structure of our classes combined with the constant positive reinforcement of our teaching style sets students up for success, so they have tons of fun and learn to love dancing!

We highly recommend starting off taking two classes per week – one light shoe class and one heavy shoe class. Both classes introduce Irish dancing foot placement, posture, basic movements, rhythm and timing, and simple patterns.  Each class begins with a structured warm-up and ends with guided stretching. The two shoe types offer very fun and different experiences, while also complimenting each other. Taking twice per week creates valuable repetition that allows students to improve much more quickly than if they only took one shoe type per week.

Drills & Funditioning Add-On Classes │ 55-minutes │ $42 per month for once per week

Level 2 and 3 students, as well as Level 1 students who know their first two dances to music (your instructor will let you know when you’re ready), are eligible to enroll in Drills & Funditioning in addition to their usual weekly class. Drills & Funditioning is for drilling and improving existing patterns, as opposed to working on or learning new patterns (you’ll do that in your usual weekly class). Drills & Funditioning is going to be extra fun, with tons of workout exercises and exhausting dance drills! Tuition will be just $42 per month because the class ratio will be higher – a fun and cost-effective option for fitting in another workout and day of dance into your dancer’s week!

  • Light Shoe Wednesdays 4:45 pm
  • Heavy Shoe Tuesdays 6:15 pm

Level 2 & 3 Classes │ 90-minutes  │  $125 per month for once per week

When the dance instructor feels a student has the appropriate mentality and has learned enough light shoe and heavy shoe patterns to be successful in the next level class, they will invite them to move to a Level 2 Class. Level 2 students then eventually progress to Level 3 classes.

All Level 2 and 3 classes are 90 minutes in length and teach both shoes, so students need experience in both shoe types to participate. Students start each class with a choreographed 10-minute warm-up routine and end each class with complex cool-down stretching designed to improve flexibility. Level 2 and 3 classes are a thorough workout, designed to increase strength, stamina, and flexibility, to maintain and improve all introductory moves and patterns, to teach next level moves and patterns, and to be all around challenging and fun!

Level 2 Classes

  • Tuesdays 4:35 pm
  • Wednesdays 6:00 pm
  • Thursdays 4:35 pm

Level 3 Classes

  • Mondays 5:40 pm
  • Fridays 4:35 pm

Performance Team Classes │ 2 hours │ $95 per month

When the dance instructor feels a Level 2 student has the appropriate mentality and has learned enough dance moves and patterns, they will invite them to join the Performance Team. Performance Team dancers take two classes per week, their Performance Team class and their Level 2 or 3 Class. They continue to progress their individual level patterns in their Level 2 or 3 Class, and they learn group performance routines in their Performance Team class. Performance Team dancers are required to have Irish light shoes, Irish heavy shoes, and white bubble socks. Team dancers also pay an apparel fee at the time of enrollment to cover the cost of their team uniform, team bag, and performance outfit.

Performance Team classes are 2 hours long. We have two teams, Team A and Team B. Each team trains on their own for an hour, plus they overlap for an hour to learn large group routines. Our Team classes are held at Dance With Joy Studios in Sellwood, as their largest studio space accommodates the teams when they combine to learn larger routines. Please note that Team classes will resume in September, instead of August, but enrollment will still open online in June 2017.
